Abstract
The Internet of Things (IoT) has rapidly transformed everyday physical objects into an interconnected information ecosystem that significantly enriches our lives. At the core of this ecosystem, the integration of social networks has led to the Social IoT (SIoT), where objects autonomously establish social relationships and cooperate to provide composite services. In this context, peer-to-peer communication plays a crucial role, with each device acting as both a service provider and consumer—thus, the concept of a “prosumer” emerges. However, for effective cooperation, it is critical to evaluate the trustworthiness of the participating nodes.
To address this, game theory offers a valuable framework for modelling interactions between devices, emphasizing the need for robust Trust Management Systems (TMSs). By analyzing these interactions as a trust game, it can be observed how the dynamics evolve and assess the effectiveness of trust strategies in promoting collaboration.
Existing trust management approaches often overlook essential assumptions, such as the importance of service evaluation errors and performance issues, where incorrect service provision could be due to malfunctions or inaccuracies. When these factors are not adequately considered, the necessity of complex trust management systems diminishes. This talk demonstrates how modelling the interactions between SIoT/IoT objects highlights the critical importance of trust systems in real-world scenarios, ensuring effective collaboration of the overall ecosystem.
