ACII 2011 welcomes papers and presentations on a range topics from the interdisciplinary arena encompassing Computer Science, Engineering, Affective Computing, Virtual Agents, Artificial Intelligence in Education, Psychology, and the Affective, Cognitive, and Social Sciences.

Topics of Interest (but not limited to)

• Recognition & Synthesis of Human Affect (face, speech, body, physiology, context, text, and neuroscience)
• Affect-Sensitive Applications (learning environments, virtual reality, entertainment, smart environments, health care)
• Methodological Issues in Affective Computing (affect annotation, reliability, validity, psychometric tools)
• Affective & Social Robotics (affective robotics, embodied emotions, biologically-inspired affective architectures)
• Affective & Behavioral Interfaces (adaptive, human-centered, collaborative, and proactive interfaces)
• Affective Agents (emotion, personality, affective decision making, and architectures of Embodied Conversational Agents)
• Relevant Insights from Psychology (emotion theories, computational models of emotion, individual differences, affect-sensitive cognitive modeling, cultural, and ethical issues)
• Affective Databases, Evaluation, & Annotation Tools (spontaneous/induced/acted emotions, protocols, coding schemes)

Submission Instructions & Information

1. The papers should feature original work (i.e., not submitted, in submission, or submitted to another conference or journal while in review).
2. Submissions are not blind
3. ACII 2011 proceedings will be published by Springer as part of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series.Papers should not exceed 10 pages and should be formatted according to the Springer LNCS formatting guidelines, which can be downloaded here.
4. Papers must be submitted as PDF through the EasyChair conference system, which can be accessed here.
5. Authors of a selected subset of accepted papers will be invited to publish expanded versions in IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing.
6. Authors of accepted papers are expected to register and attend the conference to present their work.

Review Criteria

1. Originality: Paper describes original results, or original analysis of previously published results. If the paper includes any results or analysis previously published by this or any other authors, this should be explicitly articulated in the paper and appropriate citations should be included. Furthermore, the authors should clearly highlight the novel content and contribution of the paper.
2. Significance: Results and analysis are of potential interest to others working in the field of affective computing.
3. Correctness: Derivations and algorithms are correct. Methods and statistical analysis are appropriate.
4. Clarity: Motivation, methods, results, and analysis are clear.
